Animal Profile: Martin is an estimated 10-month-old 50 lb neutered male shepherd mix who was dumped in the country along with Aston; they joined us on Friday Aug 12. These dogs are sweet and easy, get along well with people and other dogs (see video). We will post more as we get to know him once he arrives in Seattle. Foster Update: Marty is a very affectionate Belgian Malinois mix that will need a determined owner to help him grow into a great dog! He is wary of strangers, but once he gets to know you, hell just plop on your lap and ask for scratches. If he could physically merge with you - he would. He also gets along very well with other dogs, and loves to chase, wrestle and play tug of war. He is crate training (90% trained) and potty trained. He will go into his crate and wait for a treat as a reward. At night, he either sleeps closed in his crate or free-roaming the house. He loves to snuggle on the couch and give you kisses. He WILL insist for more belly rubs if you stop! He loves all kinds of toys from chew toys (antlers, benebones) to balls, to squeaky plush toys. Fetch is one of his favorites. Marty is very smart and has quickly picked up simple commands such as sit, down, crate, leave it, wait. However, he is still nervous outside the home - he is very aware of his environment and constantly looks behind him. He does not pull on a leash but he gets distracted and will need training to help gain some confidence around loud noises, cars, etc. He is eager to please and easy to train but the Belgian Malinois in him definitely needs structure and balance. Although he gets along well with dogs and loves to play, he is very human-centered and would ideally have an owner that is able to dedicate some time to Martys training and exercise. He is still young and has lots of energy that will need to be expelled either through mental or physical stimulation, or ideally a job. He is very fast and could succeed at sports such as lure coursing, barn hunt, fast cat, and potentially bite work. Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550 which includes neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA guidelines, negative heartworm test, and microchip. Adoption fee may be tax deductible as Dog Gone Seattle is a 501c3 organization.
