ADOPTABLE - SPECIAL NEEDS

Casper is a very gentle, tolerant and friendly dog once he has developed trust with someone. His tail wags and he gives you kisses when picked up. Please note that while he does allow us at the Sanctuary to pick him up, it will take time for him to feel comfortable enough to let someone else pick him up. Casper is a Shih Tzu mix. He is neutered, house trained and crate trained. Casper is about 10 years old. He has glaucoma and is completely blind. We had his eyes tested at the Richmond Animal Eye Center and unfortunately he is not a candidate for corrective surgery.

Casper self-soothes by walking in circles to calm himself down when he feels alone or in a strange environment. Music playing in the background helps him tremendously. Being blind, any sudden touch will scare him. Because of the extended warm-up time to get comfortable, we want to assure that Casper’s new home is free of stressors. We prefer an adopter experienced with blind dogs, and without children at home.

Casper is currently in foster. If interested in Casper, please fill out the adoption application found on our webpage https://www.mikossanctuary.org/adopt. You might need to cut and paste this link into your browser.

FindpetTM is a Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry for the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup Tool. AAHA provides an internet-based application that enables veterinarians, humane organizations, pet owners or other persons to search various Pet Recovery Service registries and identify those registries on which a particular microchip is registered. AAHA is not affiliated or involved with any specific microchip registry and has no relationship, financial or otherwise, with this Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry ("Registry"). This Registry has given AAHA permission to search the Registry's database in order to assist pet owners in being reunited with their pets. AAHA does not maintain a database of microchips of its own. It only links to registries such as this one. The AAHA Universal Microchip Lookup Tool only searches the databases of companies that elect to participate in the program.
