Charley is 1.5 years old, and about 10 pounds 

Charley found himself in an Ontario shelter, when he was resource guarding his food bowl from the resident child in the home.  The family had Charley since he was a puppy.  He never received any training or socialization outside his family bubble. 

Charley then went to an Ontario rescue, and they had him in their care for a month or less, and he bit the foster Mom.  He was guarding a sock.  It was a bad bite on the leg.

The rescue returned Charley to the shelter and he was at risk of euthanasia.

We welcomed Charley and hes been in board and train for the past few weeks and is doing really well.  

He is a terrier and has a big terrier attitude.  At this time, we are not seeing any guarding issues with Charley.  Hes actually a pretty great dog.

That said, he has a past that were sure will bubble forward again.  

Charley will need a very dog savvy adopter. Someone that understands dog body language. Someone that understands resource guarding in dogs.  Someone willing to continue working with a professional trainer.  Someone 
committed to a project dog.  Someone willing to instill boundaries & expectations for Charley.  

Hes a really great dog and with a matched adopter, hes going to go on to have an absolutely amazing life and be a terrific companion for someone.

Of course, absolutely no kids in the home, or visiting on a regular basis, that are under 15 years of age.

Charley came to us with a bit of a goopy eye, so hes on eye drops for those

He was microchipped with the previous rescue, so hell come chipped.


FROM HIS TRAINER, WHERE HE CURRENTLY LIVES:

Charly is an old soul in a little young guys body. Hes quiet for the most part unless hes spooked or policing other dogs play. 

Hes a medium to low energy kiddo and has been extremely easy to care for.

Charly appreciates his crate, lots of naps and is a good little walker as well. Hes curious and pretty confident about the world around him.

We have seen little spurts of energy but hes generally a laid back dude. 

We know he has a history of resource guarding but we have had a lot of management (crate, lack of access to items he may guard) so we have yet to see it ourselves.

While he is dog social, he doesnt seem to know how to interact in play just yet but Im confident that he will get the hang of it.

As of today, though our protocols could change tomorrow, we are still moving forward with adoptions. Our process has changed from some of the previous elements: We are a registered animal welfare organization, so we are deemed an essential service. All paperwork completed online, video home visits, meet and greets outside respecting social distancing, leashes/collars/supplies wiped down and disinfected (GermiCide 3 wipes), disinfectant on the dog prior to handoff (Aqueos wipes for dogs)
