PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION IN THE DOGS PROFILE, AS WELL AS THE INFORMATION ON OUR WEBSITE BEFORE EMAILING US WITH QUESTIONS. Our Volunteers use up valuable time answering questions, when the answers are readily available on our website. Our adoptions come with 30 days of free post-adoption support through Petcademy.org. We are a foster-based rescue. We do not have a facility. MEET & GREETS FOR DOGS IN ONTARIO WILL ONLY BE ARRANGED ONCE AN ADOPTION APPLICATION IS APPROVED. THANK YOU!!! Please visit our website for more information: https://www.niagaradogrescue.com/ or fill in our adoption application: https://niagaradogrescue.com/adoption-application.php OUT-OF-TOWN Dogs with NDR refer to dogs we have saved that have yet to make their journey to Ontario. These dogs are currently in our care with the help of our partners in the area. These dogs will all travel to the Niagara Region once an appropriate adopter or local foster is found. Needs a home with a yard: Preferably, her breed needs exercise Needs another dog: No, she is sometimes intimidated by bigger dogs at the shelter. Can live in An apartment: no Backstory: Leia and her brother Luke were turned into animal control by a resident claiming she found them. No owner came forward. Leia loves attention from people and likes to climb in your lap. She’s very affectionate and loves to give kisses. She can walk for miles with no issue, so if you like hiking, then Leia is the dog for you. Leia is the more submissive of the “twins” as we refer to them. However, Leia always beats her brother to sit on someone’s lap, so he has to wait his turn then. She’s well behaved in her kennel, and has not destroyed her bed or blankets. She’s a really sweet puppy who has spent way too much of her puppyhood locked in a 3 ft by 4 ft cage in the shelter. There are no employees available to walk the dogs, so the dogs there are reliant on volunteers for walks. Leia can be a little fearful of more dominant dogs and will cower, or climb up somewhere high until she’s used to them. Be aware that we believe Leia is part mountain goat due to her ability to climb! Heelers are herding dogs. They are best suited to a lot of outdoor time.
