Description:
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) Is a HUGS Dog Right for You? for additional information.
Levi is a very loving 2yr 9 month-old Dutchie. He loves to run around and play! Levi does well on walks. He does well with other dogs AFTER being introduces slowly and allowing them to meet on Levis terms. Levi does great at meals. he is very well mannered and respectful. Levi is very people oriented. He wants to be where his people are whether this is in bed or on the couch. If you are watching TV, he will try to either be in your lap or cuddled right next to you. When its bedtime, he will snuggle right next to you and provide lots of warmth! Levis favorite toys at the moment are the Chuck It sticks or anything he can play tug a war with his humans. While he is gentle you may have to remind him to be gentle when he tries to latch on to his end of the toy. This is when he gets most vocal. He will let you know if you arent being fast enough for him when hes ready to play, or if his sibling is trying to hog his ball/ toy (he will tell on her!). However, he is good about sharing toys (and smart!) and will often pick a different toy. He will use it to distract his sibling with it, so he can steal the one he originally had and wanted back! Levi is a young boy who especially needs his walks for the exercise, to help him unwind, and to keep up his social skills. He does well with a short walk in the morning and a longer one at night. If you miss the morning walk he will be a little more antsy when coming home from the workday until his evening walk. Levi really is a fabulous dog, very sweet and eager to learn. Hes a lovable cuddler and a sweet goofball! He is a happy boy eager to share his love with the right family who will have time to continue working with him. Levi doesnt love his crate and would do best with pet parents who work from home or who are retired, and as an only dog, or with a playful female dog buddy his size.

Like any of our dogs, this gorgeous boy would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that this breed needs. Because of that, Levis ideal owner will have prior GSD or other herding breed experience. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners.

Levis adoption fee is $350, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply.
Please review the information in the About Us, Important Considerations and Adopt sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.
