Hellloooooooo out there!! My name is POPCORN. I am originally from California but I just arrived in BC on December 11th and am crashing with my amazing foster parents in Victoria until I find my furever home! Here is some more info about me: PHYSICAL INFO: Breed: Husky mix Age: approx. 2 years Gender: Male Weight: 66 lbs (30 kg) Current Location: Victoria, BC (originally from California) Measurements: 58cm tall RESCUE STORY - My story is a mystery, even to me! Some very kind hoomans saw me roaming some California country roads at the end of June this year. After a few days of coming by to visit me, they realized the sad truth - either my old family musta dumped me there, or Ive always lived on the road! I know right?! How could that happen to a cutie like me?! Luckily, these kind hoomans managed to catch me and gave me a safe place to stay for a few months. Unfortunately, my rescuers moved out of the country at the end of November and had nowhere for me to go. With broken hearts, they surrendered me to Fresno Animal Humane Society. Little did they know that this "shelter" gave me a deadline- I had until December 7th to find a home or else I would be euthanized. Can you imagine?! THANKFULLY, some wonderful humans in Victoria offered to foster me while I continue my search for my furever home. I was released by Fresno Humane Society on December 8th and travelled by bus to BC (one helluva drive, Ill tell ya that!). I am now getting acclimatized to the BC winter and am so, so glad to have a safe place to crash and receive allll the love I deserve! TEMPERAMENT - When I was first rescued, I was a little timid around humans and when they tried to pet me, I would back away. Thankfully, after just a short while, I realized that they were just being nice and that pets feel AWESOME! Now when I see people Im familiar with, I run to them wiggling my booty and get super excited for the affection and ear scritches coming my way! Not to brag, but I am just such a gentle guy!! Check out this video of me eating a noodle - I know my manners! I love people and companionship, but I have also been left alone and havent shown any signs of separation anxiety (no stress or any destruction). My foster mama describes me as a lovely, gentle husky with a fantastic temperament. She says I am sweet, friendly, well-mannered, and just a totally loveable and beautiful guy! She says I am "cuddly but not needy", the perfect combo really! Admittedly, I am a big fan of a comfy spot on the couch- hehe. I am not a loud boy, no barks from me yet (but well see if I learn my voice as I get more comfy in Canada!) I am looking for a patient, loving family who wants to give me the life I so deserve. I am looking for hoomans who are happy to continue working with me on my excitability on leash (although Im making great progress with my foster mama already!) Here is a video of my leash excitability when I see other dogs. Im pretty easily redirected to some yummy chicken, but I definitely do need a confident handler to walk me and show me what is expected of me. Foster mom does a great job of this! I promise I am a quick learner (check out this video of me doing shake a paw!) and really want to make my hoomans happy. ENERGY LEVEL - For a husky, I have a surprisingly moderate energy level! Like most doggos I get the zoomies and loveeeee to go for a walk or a run, but I can also just chillax at home with the famjam once Ive had sufficient exercise. I would LOVE to have a backyard to run around in throughout the day. GETS ALONG WITH: Kids Yup! I lived with kids in my temporary foster home in California. Dogs Yes! I lived with dogs in my Californian foster home (check out me sitting next to my foster bro) and we get along well. I am excitable on leash towards other dogs, so neutrality is something I need to work on with my hoomans. Cats Nope! I met a cat in California and chased it. I have some prey drive around cats. PREY DRIVE - Moderate. If I see a squirrel or cat on my walk, I get excited and want to chase. However I am easily redirected by some chicken snacks and I soon forget about the squirrel/cat and keep on walking. TRAINING: Leash skills Work in progress but I am doing pretty well! Check out a video of me walking in my foster home in Cali. My foster mama in Victoria is working on my excitability on leash... I am a pretty good, loose-leash walker for the most part (video, video 2), but when I see other doggies I can get pretty excited and pull (video). I dont growl or anything, I just reallyyy wanna make friends and say hi (although I come in too hot for that right now!) We are working on being NEUTRAL around other dogs and are doing some daily desensitization. My foster mama is working on a "look" and "leave it" command with me which will set me up for success! House trained YUP! I mastered houstraining really quick with my foster mama - I havent had any accidents in my foster home and I know to go to the back door to tell my humans if I need to go outside to do my business! With diligent handlers who take me out for regular potty breaks, I will learn my house manners pretty quick in my adoptive home. Car - I am the best passenger Prince (video)! My foster mama says I am relaxed and quiet in the car, I was even fantastic on the long ride home to Victoria from Vancouver on the ferry! Obedience training - Ive been working on my recall training with my fosters. Check out this video and this video! I also know Sit, Down, Shake a Paw and am working on "look at me", "wait", and "leave it". Im doing so well and am a pretty fast learner.
