Adoption policy

The City of Chico Animal Shelter is owned by the City of Chico and operated by the City of Chico Police\xa0Department under Animal Services.\xa0 The city resumed operations of the shelter in February of 2012. \xa0 Animal Services is responsible for enforcing all City animal related ordinances and state laws, including picking up dogs running at large and quarantining animals for Rabies observation.\xa0 The Chico Animal Shelter houses and cares for\xa0all stray dogs found within Chico city limits.\xa0 These animals may have been picked up by Chico Animal Control, or brought in by a concerned citizen.\xa0 The Chico Animal Shelter also takes unwanted dogs from owners residing within Chico city limits.\xa0 The shelter maintains a waiting list for dogs needing to be surrendered.\xa0 Chico Animal Services is no longer accepting surrendered cats.\xa0 Owners wishing to surrender their cats are referred to the Butte Humane Society.

AAHA is not affiliated or involved with any specific microchip registry and has no relationship, financial or otherwise, with this Participating Pet Recovery Service Registry ("Registry"). This Registry has given AAHA permission to search the Registry's database in order to assist pet owners in being reunited with their pets. AAHA does not maintain a database of microchips of its own. It only links to registries such as this one. The AAHA Universal Microchip Lookup Tool only searches the databases of companies that elect to participate in the program.
