Adoption policy

Save Our Strays (S.O.S.) Animal Shelter was founded in 1981 to rescue, shelter and adopt neglected, abused and homeless dogs and cats in the city and local counties. In 1987, six years later, the shelter was constructed with many hours of hard work by dedicated volunteers and contributions from caring individuals and businesses. OUR COMMITMENT is to maintain a no-kill shelter, and to end the tragedy of pet overpopulation. To date we have rescued, rehabilitated, spayed, neutered, and adopted out over 3,000 pets. Regretfully, we turn many animals away because our current facilities are too small and understaffed. We are still struggling against the barren backdrop of skeleton funding and minimal volunteer interest, however we persevere with our mission of compassionate care. This is no small mission either, because on any given day there is an average of 100 dogs and cats waiting for another chance. YOUR SUPPORT is vital to our mission.
